Whether in your own backyard, or your favorite hiking trail, trees are a great winter exploration. Talk with your child talk about the shape of the branches, animal homes you may see, and different textures and colors of bark. Go for a walk and look for squirrel, bird, and even hornet nests. These are much easier to spot after the leaves have gone. Listen to the sound of the wind in winter trees. Does it sound different when they have leaves?
