Your pantry has a plethora of play opportunities! Set out some food you have in the pantry, grab your reusable shopping bags, and viola—you have your own grocery store! Don’t have a pretend cash register? Use an old calculator. Don’t have a play shopping cart? Find a basket around the house to use for shopping. Everyone can take turns being the shoppers and being the cashier.
For older children, get them involved in writing grocery lists, or let them copy words from boxes and cans. This is a great opportunity to practice handwriting.
